The ability of us humans to disperse knowledge in efficient ways has lead to the rapid advancements of our civilizations. I truly am thankful for the various thinkers spreading their thoughts in comprehensible forms. The past days brought to me, an opportunity to finally read "1984" , The Orwellian classic which might not be depicting the reality as it is now, paints the picture of a dystopian alternate future provided that man along his peers fails to put necessary checks on the men who govern them. Given the current scenario of the world we live in, we are witnessing a tumultuous time where there is great civil unrest within societies, Be it as Eastern as India or as Western as the United States, people are getting aware of the politics of life, but also at the same time, the various governments of the world continue to drift towards the dystopia painted by George Orwell in '1984' with greater civil surveillance and further ignorance on the part of the people regarding the surveillance forced on them. There continue to be proxy wars in far lands under the disguise of "fighting for freedom" , everyday new lies of the governments are unearthed, Men continue to suffer due to lack or wastage of resources ; it is such times which make me feel more drawn to the ideas in 1984 where Orwell points out the flaws in the system through a satirical scenario where the true intentions of the ruling men are revealed. The reality of the novel does not necessarily make me happy, but knowing that I am at least able to think or perceive things with a new perspective gives me satisfaction. I do agree with many ideas, such as the need of war to further reinforce the public sentiment towards the ruling party , a few powerful men consuming the majority of the resources for themselves. While these might not be a part of the global reality YET , these are part of an unfortunate reality in many lands. After being exposed to such ideas, I strongly suggest that everyone must educate themselves and must be aware as to what their elected representatives are doing, as we might not take interest in Politics, politics will surely take interest in us, and if not for us, we owe it to the future generations that we leave a healthy society for them to inherit and revel in.
It seems to me that it is a prefect time to read 1984. As you mentioned, our reality is alarmingly approaching the fictitious world of 1984. You're not alone in thinking that we're all almost forced to be more politicized because we have much to lose. You're right, we all need to do our very best to be informed and educate ourselves. I truly enjoyed reading your reflections on the novel and the political developments in our time. Please keep reading and keep writing.
